Mission

The Sam Beall Fellows Program from the Blackberry Farm Foundation provides people early in their careers in hospitality and the culinary arts the opportunity that Sam, our late proprietor and visionary leader, had – a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is life changing.

The goal of the program is to help aspiring and passionate young professionals become more well-rounded and knowledgeable, with immersive, hands-on experience and close-up seeing and learning in some of the world’s best places to be made welcome.

About Sam

Sam Beall grew up at Blackberry Farm and made it his home until his untimely passing in 2016. Because of his passionate love of gracious hospitality and of food and beverages that are closely linked to dedication to craft and stewardship of the land, Blackberry has become a world-renowned destination.

Sam began his career by immersing himself in study and learning at some of the very best restaurants, hotels, vineyards, wineries, and creameries in San Francisco and the Napa Valley, an experience that forever shaped his vision for a very special place in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
