Boys & Girls Club of Blount County

Boys & Girls Club of Blount County provides life-enhancing and life-changing after school and summer youth development programs to over 500 young people annually, ages 5 to 17. Located at the Fort Craig School building in Maryville, TN, Boys & Girls Club provides programming to youth five core areas: (1) Character and Leadership Development; (2) Education and Career Development (3) Health and Life Skills (4) the Arts; and (5) Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. Our organization’s three priority outcomes for youth are for them to achieve academic success, build healthy lifestyles, and develop strong character and citizenship skills.

To ensure healthy lifestyles of Boys & Girls Club youth, Club professionals teach youth how to grow their own fruits and vegetables in their very own Club garden at the Club site. Club youth harvest the fruits and vegetables they grow, often using these to cook delicious dishes as part of their cooking Club, as well as taking them home to share with their family. The Cooking Club, which meets in the kitchen area of the Club, teach youth how to eat healthy, as well as how to prepare nutritious snacks and meals. These programs, coupled with our sports and fitness programs at the Club, gives youth the resources and opportunities to develop healthy habits for life.
