Family & Children

Holidays and summer vacations have always conjured fond memories of childhood, when our family set out on an adventure away from home. Whether it was a trip to our grandparents’ house in the country or a camping trip in the Smoky Mountains, we always came to a new realization of how important our family was and just how precious this time was together. Family time at Blackberry Farm offers a unique opportunity to experience adventures that will create memories to last a lifetime. Take time for mother-and-daughter pampering at the Spa; pass on your father’s or grandfather’s tradition of casting that perfect fly across the pristine waters of Hesse Creek. Embark on a hike along the Trunk Branch Trail with your family clan, horseback ride across mountain trails and pastoral meadows, or simply picnic in a field far away from schedules and daily routines.

Adventure Series

Appreciation through Connection From trails to gardens and streams to mountains, join us in a unique opportunity to connect to a place and time, as we discover and explore together. The Adventure Series takes guests of all ages into the great outdoors, for challenging and enriching activities on property and in the nearby Smoky Mountain region. Programs are based on Adventure Quests, Mountain Discovery and Farmstead Life, and targeted toward ages 10 and up.

Mountain Discovery

Mountain Discovery activities are all about learning to exist in the mountain environment. From plant and wildlife ID to learning about wild edibles and managing wildlife encounters, these activities are all about being comfortable and safe in the outdoors in order to get the most out of it. Classes also include basic principals such as "Leave No Trace" ethics and basic wilderness survival.

Farmstead Life

Life on the Farm helps to teach a family what a working farm is all about. Lessons are based around specific areas of Blackberry including the garden, livestock, and farm production areas. Families have the opportunity to learn about successful gardening or beekeeping or learn basic elements of proper livestock care such as the need for pasture rotation and free range foraging.

Adventure Quests

Adventure Quests are activities for those wanting to get out of thier comfort zone and have the expertise of a guide to help them understand a new way of enjoying the outdoors. From paddling clinics to an introduction to rope skills and rock climbing, families learn what to think about when venturing out into the wilderness of and natural resources of East Tennessee. These activities not only give the families an opportunity to "play", but also help teach the skills necessary to do it safely and correctly.

Camp Blackberry

Camp Blackberry is a program for children ages 4 and older that encourages “Appreciation through Exploration”. Our activities include interacting with the farm animals, discovering nature and the outdoors, and experiences in our garden. Each day has a different theme that allows children to have hands on learning experiences as well as lots of fun. One of our favorite parts of each day is what we call "Exploration Hour" this time is set aside each day to focus on specific interests of the children in attendance where we can explore any aspect of the camp curriculum.
