Brewery Collaboration
Peel Your Face Orange IPA

After brainstorming, flavor research and planning together, Brandon Jones of Yazoo Brewing Company spent a day in April at the Blackberry Farm Brewery with Brewery Director Roy Milner and Brewer Daniel Heisler to create a new collaborative release – Peel Your Face Orange IPA!

Brandon and Roy have a long standing friendship and love of brewing quality beer. The collaboration presented the perfect opportunity for two celebrated Tennessee breweries, and friends, to come together to highlight the East Tennessee region.

The hops used in this blend lend themselves to citrus flavors, and the citrus profile is in line with the cool citrus notes present in the Blackberry Farms Saisons. Combine that with the location of “big orange country” and an orange beer seemed like the natural fit. With aggressive citrus flavor, the brewing team crafted this collaboration to be a standout release.

Peel Your Face is a hazy IPA with a bold, bright taste. It was brewed with sweet and bitter orange peel and spent extra time aging on blood orange puree before bottling. There are some distinctly Yazoo things about it and some distinctly Blackberry things about it, making it a harmonious blend of the two that is sure to wow you.

Very prominent figure in the home brewing community and Branden either hosted or was a part of several of the events that we did when we first started. The brewery he is now working with, Yazoo, I’ve been friend with them since the first day Yazoo opened. I was the very first person to ever have a beer in Yazoo’s taproom. A long term friendship. We’ve always talked about working together. Both Tennessee breweries and wanting to shine a light on TN. Second reason is his passion is using barrels and wood aging, and that’s something that we wanted to do here from the start. It just kind of worked to do something together.

Yazoo uses hops more frequently than we do. Branden had been working with hazy IPAs, and he became enchanted with using a really aggressive citrus profile. Which is kind of in line with what we do with our Saisons. They go in a cool citrus direction. They are flavors that we like, and it works being in TN with the history of orange. Branden’s family has history with Oak Ridge, and we just started having fun with the idea of an orange themed beer. It’s not something that we normally do, it felt like something that would be cool to do together.

Packaged in early May? Then at least 6 weeks in bottle to bottle condition, so right at start of summer, mid June.
