Blackberry Farm

Friends of the Farm

This is the year that...

...I involve more of our guests in our Farm-to-Table Program as it related to sustainable agriculture. In years past, the guests that I have spent time with have developed a special interest in the heirloom seed collection that I have started here at Blackberry Farm and the history behind the seeds.

This year, as we being our 2015 farming season, much of my time spent with guests who are with me for “A Day in the Life of the Farmer” will experience first-hand planting the heritage seeds that out pioneer ancestors planted here in Millers Cove and just across the mountains in Cades Cove, beginning in the early 1800’s. 2015 is also the year that I continue to expand on my theme gardens.  Beginning in 2013, I planted my first theme garden, which was based on my 1913 William Henry Maule Seed Catalog.

My 2014 theme was the Cades Cove garden, which covered the time period of 1819-1934. My yet to be named theme garden for 2015 will include even more guest opportunities to experience first-hand what the gardens from times past were like.
