August is Garden Month

During the month of August we celebrate the bountiful produce coming from our fields, and we offer several programs that our guests can participate in. We hope that you will visit us during our garden month celebrations and discover the magic of our unique growing season for yourself.

10:00am - 12:00pm
A Lifetime of Seeds
Participate in a discussion with Master Gardener John Coykendall about the rich and colorful history of heirloom
seeds and the importance of their preservation.

10:00am - 12:00pm
Beyond Organic
Spend time with the gardeners to learn some secrets about farming the natural way.  We’ll talk about rotation, plant
companions, insectaries and many other methods for growing vigorous crops without the need for harmful chemicals and sprays.

7:00pm - 9:00pm
Garden Dinner
Savor a relaxing ourdoor dinner on the farm with our gardeners.  Our chefs will prepare a memorable meal in their
outdoor kitchen, using heirloom vegetables harvested just moments before!

10:00am - 12:00pm
Blackberry through John’s Eyes
Tour the farm with Master Gardener John Coykendall to hear the history of Blackberry Farm, which he visited as a child.
Listen as stories unfold about our area’s rich agricultural heritage and the evolution of the farm to what it is today.

10:00am - 12:00pm
Eating between the rows
With Farmstead Field School Educator Jeff Ross, walk through the heirloom garden and margins of the woods to forage and glean healthful and tasty edibles.  Discover plants you may not know you can eat!
