Camp Blackberry Silly Putty

Children are the best reminder that there is a little bit of magic in even the smallest or silliest things. A favorite among Camp Blackberry campers, this silly putty recipe is fun for all ages. It starts out as a muddled, liquid mixture. Then all at once on the last step, the ingredients combine and, like magic, make silly putty. What’s better than a craft that allows you get a little messy, then have a lot of fun?

You will need:
½ cup White Glue
¼ cup Cornstarch
¼ cup Hot Water
½ tsp Borax
Food Coloring (8 drops for bright dough)
Camp Tip: Be sure to use precise measurements to achieve the right texture.

Mix ½ cup white glue and ¼ cup cornstarch in a bowl (tip – glass is easier to clean). Add the food coloring of your choice and continue mixing. In a separate bowl, mix ¼ cup hot water and ½ tsp Borax and stir until it is dissolved. Add the water and Borax mixture to the glue mixture and stir again. Now use your hands to mix and work the putty until it is no longer sticky.
Note: If you remove it from your mixing bowl and it is too sticky, put it back in the bowl to continue absorbing the Borax.

This silly putty has a lot of elasticity and campers have been known to stretch it all the way across the length of the Camp Blackberry building!
