How to Build the Perfect Fire
‘Tis the Season for fires or at least curling up in front of them! We are often asked, how to build the perfect fire, so Scott Swan, Blackberry Farm’s own Grounds Manager, gave us his tips and instructions on building the perfect fire! He reminds us to make sure we use dry wood to start a fire easily!
To build the perfect fire, use 4-5 dry, seasoned, and split logs. Place the largest log in back of grate to direct heat outward. Add kindling or fire starter between logs and place the remaining wood crosswise. Loosely wad 4-5 sheets of newspaper and place under the grate. Light the paper and add more until kindling and starter are well lit. Carefully adjust logs to catch the flames. Keep in mind that a bed of ash at the bottom insulates the fireplace and creates a hotter fire. Enjoy the warmth and glow of a well-tended fire.
