Smokies Hike 100

This year the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is celebrating the National Parks Centennial with a challenge to locals and visitors alike: hike 100 miles in the park in 2016. Superintendent Cassius Cash is leading the charge which “aims to inspire all potential hikers—young and old, new and skilled—to experience and gain a new appreciation and stewardship for their national park.” Participants who reach the 100-mile goal will earn a commemorative ‘Smokies Centennial Challenge - Hike 100’ pin and be invited to a park celebration hosted by Superintendent Cash. Needless to say, our Adventure Team has jumped at the opportunity to take on this goal and several of us already have entries on our hiking logs. We are always eager for any excuse to take to the trails and are now even more motivated to share the beauty and adventure of the Smokies with our Blackberry guests. There are many ways to be involved, especially if you are tallying your own log. Let us take you on a half or full day hike on one of our favorite scenic routes. We can even do an overnight backpacking excursion in the park, if you really want to rack up some miles! Stay tuned for information on group hike offerings with Superintendent Cash in August and December.

If you’re passionate about our National Parks, love the outdoors and enjoy covering new or favorite territory, bring your boots to Blackberry (it’s worth the extra space in your suitcase)! We are looking forward to counting the miles with you as we experience the natural beauty and adventure of these beautiful mountains.
