What to do at Blackberry in August

We will celebrate the bountiful produce coming from our fields and you will interact with our master gardener as well as our culinary team, learning techniques for better growing—while savoring the fresh flavors our fields have to offer.

Good From the Ground Up
Try a Foggy Ridge Hard Cider this Garden Month. They are small batch ciders made by the Flint Family in Virginia. Each cider is made from Heirloom apple varieties. We have completely dry versions, slightly sweet and dessert styles and we only just started offering these incredible products!

Blackberry Farm Charger
Straight from our Master Gardener, John Coykendall’s, journals, the story and beauty of our FarmStead is captured in this exclusive design by Bernardaud of France. John will love to tell you all about his sketches and stories! Take your Farmstead charger to the garden to have it personally signed by our Master Gardener himself.

In the Garden
Enjoy the iconic Southern sounds of cicadas and grasshoppers as they serenade your dinner in the Garden. Each Wednesday night in August, choose to have your dinner al fresco at the garden’s edge, and enjoy a truly seasonal menu prepared and served under the stars. The path from farm to table has never been closer!

Terrarium Gardens
Build your own terrarium garden with a chicken coop or garden shed to take a mini Blackberry Farmstead home with you. Plant your own flowers and decorate with our mini garden tools. This terrarium is perfect for your outdoor patio!

Ride into the Garden
A great way to spend your morning is to saddle up and take a horseback ride around property. Along the way you and your guide can stop by the garden for a tomato tasting, or for whatever else may be happening there that day!

The Farmer’s Share

This is a great month to focus on Grower-Producer Champagne. That is champagne that the same person who grew the grapes, made the wine. This isn’t always the norm in Champagne, but we offer a variety of the smaller farmer producers and would love to share one with you in the Dining Room.

Mountain Mint Mojito
Enjoy a Mountain Mint Mojito at the Farmhouse Spa. One of several hydro-treatments, the treatment is a unique blend of natural products, such as mint from our gardens, refreshing water from the Vichy Shower or the Swedish Hose, and skillful technique. Be sure to pair one of these treatments with your next adventure on property.

Garden Dog Toys

Don’t forget your dog while you’re harvesting your fruits and veggies at home. Visit the Oak Cottage for P.L.A.Y. dog toys. Choose from an apple, zuccini, carrot or pea pod for your furry friend to enjoy. Each toy comes with a fun recipe to promote healthy pets!

Explore Nature’s Wildflower Gardens

Whether on a kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, or cycling trip, be sure to take note of the beautiful wildflowers surrounding you. Our area has over 1400 species of blooming plants, many of which bloom throughout the month of August.

Little Red School Shed
Each day during Garden Month, come to the garden shed and discover what makes the fields and forests tick. From seed saving to organics, beneficial insects to wild edibles, let us share with you our knowledge and lore (true or otherwise!). Check with Concierge for a full schedule.
