Blackberry Life

Feel Great and Grateful

I’m leading a yoga and meditation retreat at Blackberry Farm April 28-May 1. To give you a little taste of what’s in store for my retreat, I recently wrote a new book called Life Lessons from the Oldest and Wisest.

The book is based on many years of my interviewing elders in their 80’s, 90’s and 100’s to learn their secrets to health, happiness and longevity.

The oldest lady I interviewed was 111. Yes, you read that correctly. She was 111, a supercentenarian, and one of only 60 people out of 7 billion on the planet who are 110 or older.

Her three tips to health and longevity were NOT eating gluten free, NOR doing triathalons, NOR the low carb diet. Rather, this 111-year-old’s three tips to health and longevity were:

1. making love
2. drinking vodka
3. eating spicy food

We call that “Joie de Vivre”, and it’s commonly seen in many of the oldest and wisest. A fun fact: Jeanne Calment was the oldest human of all time. She died in 1997 at 122 years old. She ate 2 lbs of chocolate per week!

Yet, how often do we work too hard, and squeeze too tight, going days and weeks without a single moment to relax and enjoy the journey?

During my retreat to Blackberry Farm in April, you will get back in touch with all that’s good and beautiful in life. We will practice yoga and meditation classes that integrate chocolate and wine tastings into your post-savasana bliss. Why? Because our greatest moments and memories are almost always associated with tastes and scents and sounds.

This will be a weekend to slow down, loosen your grip, soothe your mind, savor the exotic flavors of Blackberry Farm and remember…HAPPY IS THE NEW HEALTHY!
