Life Porridge by Tammy Stokes

This recipe is my personal favorite creation. I believe this is one of the healthiest ways to fuel your day and it may even extend your life too. That is why I call it Life Porridge. Besides its omega-3 fat from the flax and the antioxidants from the berries, you get a healthy dose of fiber. What a great way to begin a day!

2 c. water
1/4 c. steel cut oats
1/4 c. whole oats
2 tbsp. oat bran
1 – 2 tbsp. ground flaxseed – or 1 tbsp. flaxseed oil
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Bring water to a boil.
Add steel cut oats and cook on low-medium heat for 15 minutes.
Add whole oats and simmer on low for another 5 minutes.
Remove the porridge from heat.
Stir in the rest of the ingredients.
Serving Size: two (3/4 of a cup)

Serving Suggestion
• Add 1/2 cup fresh mixed berries or stir in frozen berries
during the last 2 minutes of cooking just to thaw.
• Top with 2 tbsp. slivered nuts of your choice.
• Top with a small amount of raw honey
(if a sweetener is absolutely necessary).
